Rooted in Truth, Abounding in Love

That is the theme for Founder's Week this year. Founder's Week is a week where various speakers come and alumni of Moody can come back and attend the sessions.
Anyway, tonight was the opening and the former president of Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Easley preached and God knows I needed to hear this truth. So here are the things he said that I jotted down. He preached from Psalm 1.
The one tool that God uses more than any others to teach us is PAIN.

Do you believe God no matter what?
He's God, He's there.

Firmly planted in heaven and in earth.

Blessed does not equal prosperity(having lots of things) in the world's sense but prosperity in God.

Feeling will not sustain your relationship with Christ.

Don't let the world teach you theology, let the Word teach you theology.

Psalm 100
v1 vs v2
following the counsel of the world vs. delighting in the law of God
requires just going with the flow and following the crowd vs. requires meditation and time
as easy as playing the wii vs. playing the piano
as easy as sleeping in vs. waking up early to exercise
as easy as going to class vs. doing your best in your homework even when you dislike the prof.

v3 (the righteous) are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. in all they do, they prosper.
-be deeply rooted in God's Word and be faithful, in season you will yield fruit.
v4-5 the way of the wicked is worthless, like chaff that is blown away
-we've lost our moral footing because of the world's challenge and we'll be blown away
-find your spiritual courage and stop listening to the world
v6 God knows the way of the righteous and the wicked
devotion isn't something that you do every day so you can punch your card that shows you did it, but unless you have a constant bombardment of God's Word in your life, you'll become more like the world.
Do you spend more time on facebook or His book?
Do you spend more time sending text messages or in His Message?

You will not grow deep if you just read the Bible in a rush every day to fulfill your "duty"...as a result, there will be no fruits in season

"I want to be so close to Christ that in my deepest pain I will still not doubt God." (he suffers from chronic back pain)

I need His grace because I'm a big fat sinner bent on satisfying myself.

Walk in the way of the righteous. The Light of Christ beckons you to keep trusting and following Him.

One way ends in destruction, the other in blessing.Delight in the law of God, be deeply rooted in His word or else you will think more like the world each day because you are living in the world and not getting His word.
